Some call it the ugliest moment in Oscar history, but I call it the biggest highlight of the Oscars 2022.
Well, here’s what went down.
That’s right, Will walked on stage, slapped Chris, walked back to his seat, and shouted: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth!” twice at the top of his lungs.
And No! it was not staged.

What prompted the renowned actor to risk his image and take such a shocking action?
Well, Chris Rock was to present the award for best documentary feature at last night’s Oscars but took to cracking jokes first before making his presentation. He may have taken it a bit too far when he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith’s wife, having a role in GI Jane 2.
Ok. comedians make jokes all the time, so why was this a big deal to the Smiths?
The joke was insensitive because Jada has Alopecia, and it looked like Chris was making fun of it.
Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Oscars2022: What is Alopecia?
Alopecia is a medical condition that causes sudden hair loss in bald patches. It can occur in any part of the body. It happens when the immune system attacks hair follicles due to severe stress.
Jada has been open about her condition, even showing her hair as it comes off on social media. Consequently, she shaved her hair.
Yet, Chris insensitively used her for his GI Jane joke, referencing the character from the 1997 movie with a similar hairstyle.
That’s like offering a handshake to a maimed person or telling a lame person “don’t get up” or saying “love the hairstyle” to someone with cancer.
It’s emotional abuse.
Will surely knew what his wife has been through due to her condition and perhaps saw the joke hurt her. I guess his inner demons got to him at that moment and he couldn’t take it but reacted harshly.
“In your greatest moments, that’s when the Devil comes to you,” Denzel Washington said when he and Tyler Perry tried to calm the situation down and make peace by talking to Will and Chris during a commercial break moments later.
Well, later the same night Will won the Oscar for best actor in a leading role for his performance in “King Richard”. He apologized to the Academy and fellow nominees during his acceptance speech but not to Chris.

Likewise, Chris Rock hasn’t apologized to the Smiths but has declined to file a police report for physical abuse. Also, Chris Rock had made a joke about the Smiths when he was host at a previous OSCAR, for boycotting the event.
As expected, Will Smith is receiving lots of criticism on social media though he has equally received support from fans and colleagues.
Some think Will’s actions are inexcusable, Some think his reaction was not the best but they are understandable, some say Chris was wrong and got what he deserved while some are just waiting for the memes.
