The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has banned Will Smith from all its events for 10 years. The ban is a result of Will’s actions at the OSCARS2022.
Will slapped Chris Rock for making an insensitive joke about his wife’s medical condition at the OSCARS 2022.
Consequently, he resigned from the Academy and has now been banned from its events.
The Academy announced the ban on Friday saying, “The Board of Governors has decided, for a period of 10 years, from April 8, 2022, Mr Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards.”
The Academy further thanked Chris Rock for maintaining composure after the slap. They said, “We want to express our deep gratitude to Mr Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances. We also want to thank our hosts, nominees, presenters and winners for their poise and grace during our telecast.”
The Academy was supposed to announce its sanctions on April 18 but sped up the process after Will Smith resigned from the Academy.
Will’s resignation means he does not get to vote for the Academy Awards. Furthermore, With the 10-year ban, he would not attend any of the Academy’s events including the OSCARS Gala.
However, He will still keep the OSCAR he won for King Richard and could still be nominated for subsequent Awards.

However, movie studios seem to be wary of Will Smith movies as many are on hold due to the OSCARS slap controversy.
Also, Will Smith will reportedly seek expert help and address his mental health in a luxury rehabilitation clinic.
Meanwhile, Chris Rock refused to address the issue on his set at the New York Comedy Cellar. He said to fans, “Lower your expectations, I’m not going to address that s*it.”
