The University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT), is the winner of the 2022 Nigerian University Games after bagging 120 medals in the just-concluded event.

After a week of fun and intense sporting activities, the Games concluded with a closing ceremony on Saturday, March 26.

Furthermore, The results and list of medals were updated and UNIPORT, the defending champions, came first place for the 7th consecutive time.

UNIPORT won 61 Gold medals, 29 Silver and 30 Bronze medals.

However, the hosts, UNILAG (University of Lagos), won 86 medals, coming in second place behind UNIPORT with a 34 medal difference. They won 33 Gold, 34 Silver and 19 Bronze medals.

Nile University came 48 medals behind UNILAG to win third place. They won 38 Medals: 15 Gold, 10 Silver and 13 Bronze.

Benson Idahosa university won the special award of the best-behaved university during the games.

Ifeakachukwu Nmor was undoubtedly the best athlete of the 2022 NUGA Games. He won a total of 15 medals: 13 Gold and 2 Silver in swimming for the University of Port-Harcourt. He won 8 Gold and 2 Silver medals for individual events as well as 5 Gold medals for team events.

Consequently, the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) and Pro-Chancellor of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Proffessor Attahiru Jega, presented the Golden Trophy to Proffessor Ofurum, Deputy VC Admin of UNIPORT, who received it on behalf of Team UNIPORT.

Other dignitaries present at the closing ceremony include the Vice-Chancellor of UNIPORT, Prof. George will Owunari; Vice-Chancellor of UNIJOS, Prof. Tanko Ishaya; former Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Rahman Bello; former Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Dr Muiz Banire, among others.

Also, it was announced that the University of Jos will host the next Nuga Games in 2024.
