AMVCA 2022: the 8th edition is here and the nominees are out.

The African magic viewers choice Award (AMVCA) is one of the biggest award events for the entertainment industry in Africa. It is Multichoice’s annual event, celebrating outstanding talents and performances in film and television. The awards recognize not just actors and actresses but film-makers, producers, directors and others.

The award covers numerous categories including best actor/actress, best picture editor, best movie, best director, trailblazer and so on. Though the event didn’t hold in 2021 due to Covid-19, it is back this year, bigger and better.


The eighth edition of the African magic viewers choice award is to hold on May 14, 2022. Multichoice announced an eight-day event starting on May 7, leading to the event gala night on May 14.

Furthermore, this year the organizers announced 33 categories with a new one: best online social content creator.

AMVCA 2022: the 8TH edition Nominees

Daniel Etim Effiong and Adesua Etomi Wellington announced the nominees for AMVCA 8 on Saturday during a Livestream.

Some big names in Nollywood were among the nominated. Ramsey Nouah was nominated for the award of best director for his movie: Rattlesnake: the Ahanna story, which got nominations in a few other categories.

Among popular celebrities nominated for the award of best actor/actress in a movie were Funke Akindele, Bisola Aiyeola and Broda Shagi.

Also, popular comedians Mr. funny also known as Sabinus, Taaooma, Mr macaroni were nominated in the new category: Best online social content creator, along with Big Brother Naija’s Elozonam.

The Hosts announced that the viewers will decide the winners of 12 categories through voting while the awards panel headed by prolific film-maker, Victor Okhai will select the winners of the remaining 21 categories. Visit to vote.

They also announced that the winner of the best soundtrack category will walk home with N1.000.000 courtesy of Pepsi.

Some of the big brands sponsoring the event include Amstel, MTN, Pepsi, octa fx, cowbell, Indomie and others.
